In 1978 our parents, newly engaged in Barcelona, hit Memphis for a few days to drop the big news on Dad's parents Ruth and Roy. Exploring this historic city, they took a (fake) steamboat ride up and down the "Big Muddy," visited the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King was assassinated ten years earlier, and took in a bit of the blues scene on legendary Beale Street. Oh, and they of course stopped by the late Elvis Presley's amazing (if somewhat creepy) home, Graceland. Their lasting souvenirs? Photocopies of The King's Tennessee Driver's License.
